Our goal is to help you maintain an effective routine for oral hygiene so you can avoid tooth decay and the cost and effort of dealing with tooth decay and gum disease. You can protect your smile with a visit to CM Dental Care every 6 months for a professional hygiene cleaning and dental exam.

Your hygienist can remove stubborn plaque and tartar build-up as well as identify the warning signs of decay and gum disease that might otherwise go unnoticed.

What does preventative dental care entail?

A preventive regimed is a cooperative effort by you, your hygienist and your dentist to preserve the natural dentition and their supporting structures by preventing the onset, progress and recurrence of dental diseases.

Preventing dental disease begins at home with good oral hygiene and a well-balanced diet that limits sugar. It is continued in our practice by your hygienist and dentist to restore and maintain your oral health.

Prevention includes regular dental exams, hygiene cleanings, and x-rays. Sealants and fluoride are also great preventive treatments that help protect children’s teeth. Your dentist may also recommend a customised sports guard if you participate in contact sports or a night guard if you clench or grind your teeth at night.

What happens during a dental check-up and cleaning?

During a check-up, the dentist will examine your mouth for any signs of tooth decay, gum disease, or any other abnormalities. Your dentist will also review any x-rays of your mouth for anything that might be hidden to the naked eye and screen you for oral cancers.

During your cleaning, your hygienist will thoroughly clean each tooth and your gums to remove the plaque, tartar, any bacteria hidden in the nooks and crannies or folds of your gums, and superficial surface stains.
